Polyvagal exercise for more ventral energy
Theory
Experiencing ventral energy lies in your conscious experience of a situation. Some situations give you a sense of awe, wonder or curiosity and deep appreciation. In moments of awe, we feel both small and connected to something much larger than ourselves. Such an experience can have a transformative effect on how we experience the world. Moments of awe can occur in normal and special situations and can deepen our sense of ventral connection by paying conscious attention to them.
Assignment
Think back to a moment you experienced that made a deep impression on you, a moment of awe.
Now think back to an everyday moment you experienced that impressed you. This may have been a piece of music, an art object or something you experienced in nature. Bring your attention to your body and mind. And notice the signals you experience both physically and mentally when an everyday situation impressed you. How do you experience it?
Be alert and on the lookout for everyday moments of impression throughout the day and have conscious attention to this. Find environments that make a ventral impression on you and are easily accessible to you so that you can return to them with regularity.
Tip
Write down your moments of awe in order to reflect on this situation with greater awareness. What about the situation made it make such an impression on you, again focus your attention on your body and mind.
